Overlay Maps

Overlaying a map outline onto another map is a great way to compare the size of places. Since I used to live on Bainbridge Island, WA, I decided to see how Bainbridge compares to other islands. I used a free tool called MapFrappe.com to get the outline and overlay it onto another map. I then doctored the images a little in Photoshop.


Bainbridge Island is 27.61 square miles and larger than Manhattan (22.70 square miles). The red line is the outline of Bainbridge.



Bainbridge Island is 27.61 square miles and smaller than Santorini, Greece (34.99 square miles). The red line is the outline of Bainbridge.Santorini is one of the most famous and beautiful Islands in Greece, known for it's crater form, as it was home to a tremendous volcanic eruption in ancient times. Some people theorize that this may be the site of what people call the lost city of Atlantis.



Bainbridge Island is 27.61 square miles and about half the size of Easter Island (63.17 square miles). The red line is the outline of Bainbridge. Easter Island is a remote island in the South Pacific, known for it's hundreds of very large stone statues of faces. They were carved over the period between 1100CE - 1680 CE.



Bainbridge Island is 27.61 square miles and just smaller than St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands (31.23 square miles). The red line is the outline of Bainbridge. St. Thomas is a popular beach destination in thr Caribbean, known for beautiful beaches.
